Product Review: Windows 10 [ updated, AGAIN! ]

[ SECOND EDIT ] Just a day later, as if someone at Microsoft had read my article and thought to themselves “you think that’s crap? Check this out!” ( see bottom of article ).

[ FIRST EDIT ] Since writing this only a few hours ago, a few other things came to my attention, which I’ve added at the end

I’m writing this out of sheer frustration with an operating system that is actually a devolution, not an evolution in software design and programming. Windows 10 is still, after more than 3 years — on top of its rushed and hasty ‘development’, if you can call it that at all — an operating system barely worthy of the title “beta-release”, and is without question, a backward step in several respects from Windows 7 ( ie: it is a downgrade, not an upgrade ).

Kinetic Energy Weapons ( cars )

This is just a rant about a pet hate of mine: how easy it is to get a driver’s license, and how shit most people are at driving.

Here’s the thing: KE = (1/2).m.v^2

— what does this mean?

  • KE = Kinetic Energy — ie: the amount of energy in a massive body in motion at some given velocity;
  • which is equal to half the mass of the object ( in kilograms ) multiplied by its velocity ( metres per second ) squared;

— which in turn gives an answer in joules of energy.

  • So, let’s say that on average:
    1. your car weighs 1000 kgs;
      you’re travelling at 60 kph;
      and you’re an idiot;

    — what this means is that you’re an idiot in charge of a kinetic energy weapon, capable of doing anything up to: (1/2).1000.60^2 = 1,800,000 joules ( 1.8 MJ ( megajoules ) ) of damage to a stationary object … and if we increase your speed to 100 kph, that becomes 5 MJ ( approximately tripled for a bit over a 50% increase in velocity ).

    So why the fuck do we put so many useless drivers behind the wheel?

    That’s right:

    1. Politics;
    2. Profit;

    — because we make more money by selling more cars and fuel etc., and politicians get more votes by letting you have something that no one in their right mind should let you have, given that you’re too much of a narcissist to keep your attention on the road, and too much of an imbecile to drive well even if you did.

    So for all those people out there who keep hitting stationary objects, rear ending other cars while texting or doing their makeup, or whatever other distraction is stopping you from paying attention to what you’re doing … and for all those whom not only cannot drive 20kph faster than the speed limit ( in ideal circumstances ) safely, but whom are also so useless behind the wheel, that you drive 20 kph below the speed limit in ideal circumstances — please, PLEASE, P L E A S E! Go hand back your drivers license, or take some more lessons, or something, because if all of you were off the road, there would be no road rage, there would be few or no accidents, and we wouldn’t need a speed limit, because everyone else is wise enough to judge what is safe for their vehicle, driving ability, and the conditions of the road at the time they’re driving.

    You say you want a zero road toll ( deaths from driving related accidents )? FINE! Then hand back your license because you’re no fucking good at it!

    Capitalism: the normalisation of slavery

    Let’s say you’re a slave master in what most people understand as the historical stereotype of slavery, what does that entail?

    1. You own people as property;
    2. They have no rights;
    3. You can do anything you want to them;
    4. The expenses of keeping them alive and fit to work are your expenses;

    — so how is this any different from capitalism, if the only difference is that you give them that money so they can pay those expenses themselves? Ok, there’s a few more differences than that, but it’s still slavery.

    In a socialist democracy under capitalist economics, sure you can vote, and if your job pays well enough you can go on holidays and buy other treats for yourself, but I never said that EVERYONE was a slave under capitalism, I only said that capitalism is the normalisation of slavery.

    Yet more evidence capitalism will fail to achieve sustainability

    More than a decade ago, maybe as much as 2 decades ago I heard of some European automobile manufacturers taking responsibility for the materials used in their vehicles, by way of recalling all end of life vehicles and recycling every single component. Now I don’t know how accurate the story was, as it was second hand information at best when I received it, and I can’t even remember where I heard it. But it gave me an idea.

    More than 5 years ago I started suggesting ( and publishing ) the idea that manufacturers should be made to show technical cause for the use of any and all non-biodegradable and/or toxic materials — ie: they should be required to show that materials are chosen for technical not economic reasons, so that the best materials for the job are used, even if something else is cheaper, where those cheaper options are toxic and/or non-biodegradable — as this would ensure the maximisation of materials innovation for biodegradable and non-toxic options.

    Psychic prediction

    Ok, this isn’t really psychic, but I thought that was an apt name for the article.

    hypothetical:

    A hypothetical rock starts rolling down a hypothetical mountainside, slowly at first, then gathering speed it rolls through some mud which completely cakes the rock in an inch thick layer … and on this strange hypothetical mountain, it then encounters a patch of small broken sticks, then rolls across ice which freezes the mud and traps the sticks in it, then it rolls across gravel that gets stuck between all the sticks;

    Poverty is a full-time job

    I’m disappointed in my fellow humans that after everything we’ve seen over the past few decades — and all the history that came before — that what I’m writing about here still needs to be explained to some people … I cannot fathom how anyone could actually genuinely be stupid enough not to get it, without actually suffering from some kind of serious brain damage, birth defect of mental retardation — or perhaps brainwashing … and that’s it, isn’t it … people are indeed brainwashed.

    Superbugs and flesh eating bacterium

    I was reading an article the other day about a woman who died as a consequence of flesh eating bacterium, and it made me think a few things which prompted this article.

    Firstly, I will guarantee you that the world will continue to take the wrong approach to this unless they think in the way I’m about to suggest — hence the motivation to educate them before they make matters worse as they’ve been continuing to do so far … secondly I’ll bet a lot of people will deny what I’m about to say, and then it will later be proven correct.
