When telling some people about my work on Open Empire, the same thing comes up again and again … and it just makes me wonder:
“before you asked me this, did you listen to one single word I already just said only moments ago?”
It would seem to be a no-brainer as to why these questions and expectations are unreasonable and stupid … and yet, people keep doing it … so I won’t keep you in suspense any longer, I’ll tell you what it is.
People keep asking me to meaningfully summarise the entirety of my 25+ year obsession (riding on the shoulders of the work of a great many others – some of whom died before I was born) in 3 sentences or 3 minutes (at most), or some equally arbitrary amount of words or time to suit their particular attention deficit disorder.
Now … if I had just said: “hey I’ve got this great idea for opening a gift store”, or a cafe, florist, or some other equally common business which has existed for generations – fine, maybe your question would be reasonable, but it’s not is it … and as I likely already told you: I’m talking about fundamentally transforming the flawed foundations of civilisation, developing every single required system and strategy both for initial implementation, transition from the status-quo, and everything else required for the ultimate destination of the whole vision … this is so far beyond anything you’ve likely seen before.
NOW … even that description above doesn’t begin to describe it, and though I may be able to say it well under than 3 minutes, my point is this:
- IF the most amount of attention span you can give me is somewhere between 3 sentences and 3 minutes;
- THEN PLEASE just say “I’m sorry, but I just don’t really give a fuck if we have a planet to live on, or which species are going extinct, or if someone’s being exploited … I just don’t care … and I am about to go take some drugs and fuck some superficial women with self esteem issues, so I really haven’t got time for this”;
- AND IF YOU’D JUST BE HONEST LIKE THAT (or whatever the equivalent case may be), then we can both move on without wasting our time, because I don’t want to talk to you either if this is all I am going to get.
I feel so much better getting that off my chest … thanks for listening … and I hope some of you can relate and are laughing 😉
haha! i have a good friend. he is so straight forward and blunt, he doesn’t have many friends. he is my friend because of his ability to tell you the truth with no corners cut. straight shooter; as it is, like it or not. i on the other hand am patient and can tolerate others to an extent, but still tell it how it is, to your face without seeming so rude as my friend. if you ask, at least have some decency and respect to listen. not sure if this relates but it reminded me of my friend and being who i am i laughed, yet can relate somehow. thanks
I’m not a big fan of social courtesies, I think they tend to more often benefit evil-doers (so to speak), by providing them another facade of cover for their agenda … if something is worthy of critique because it sucks sweaty donkey’s balls, we should all say so with disregard for others “feelings” … because quite frankly, people will get over having their feelings hurt, but they won’t get over fascism with political & economic power, because that kills and enslaves people.
